Penske Day of Hope

Provision Partners in Community Outreach Event

Worcester, MA is the 2nd largest city in New England with a population of approximately 184,000. Over 20% of this population lives well below the poverty line. Also living in Worcester is a relatively high percentage of refugees. In Massachusetts, Worcester is the leading destination for people escaping persecution in their homelands. There are approximately 40,000 immigrants living in Worcester from 85 different countries, composing 21 percent of the city’s total population – compared to 15 percent statewide.

Recently, a Worcester nonprofit organization held a one day collaborative, community event that helped bring hope to Worcester County residents with FREE groceries, health screenings, job and career services, family portraits, haircuts, prayer, a Kids Carnival, community services, and some entertainment. Provision Ministry rented a 26-foot Penske box truck to deliver a large food donation to support this event. Provision connected a couple of corporate partners to yield a food donation worth approximately $18,000 as well as a footwear donation worth approximately $5,000 for the event held at University Park in Worcester this year on June 10, 2017.

This annual, all-volunteer event mobilizes residents to serve and make a difference in their community. Strong participation by local businesses, churches, community agencies, and individuals makes this event a success. Not only were 460 pair of shoes distributed and 186 haircuts given, but 30-40 children learned to ride a bike! Provision Ministry is proud to be able to support this event!

Provision Ministry partners with many corporations that have first-quality excess inventory and services to donate to those in need. To find out more about how corporate donations can make a difference in your community by helping others, visit our Get Involved page to learn more and Contact Us.
